This class explores how science is communicated across contexts. Students will gain practical skills in communicating science to broad audiences. Focus is on agricultural science, but the principles taught apply to all disciplines. A beneficial class for QCB RAs! - Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching, and Learning (CIRTL)
The CIRTL Network is a growing collaboration of universities dedicated to improving teaching and learning in higher education. Their mission is to educate to develop future faculty committed to implementing and advancing evidence-based teaching practices to enrich undergraduate education that is accessible to all learners. Their website offers many resources for those wanting to improve their knowledge and skills in teaching STEM. - QCB Celia Elliott Grant Writing Resources
Celia Elliott is now retired from the University of Illinois physics department. During her career, she became legendary for her practical grant writing tips that were proven successful, with hundreds of researchers across the country following her guidance to win awards. - Writers Workshop
The Writers Workshop provides free support to all writers in the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus community across all forms of academic and professional writing, at any stage of the writing process. - Writing Across Engineering and Science
WAES is a program that supports STEM faculty as they learn, incorporate, and adapt pedagogies and practices from writing studies research in ways that enrich both their technical learning objectives and their students’ communication skills.
English as a Second Language
All international students are required to demonstrate a minimum proficiency in English to be admitted to Illinois. Students who would like to improve their skills may want to consider English Placement Testing or these local opportunities to improve your English.
- QCB Postdoctoral Fellowship Program
The QCB postdoc program offers an opportunity for qualified applicants to further their careers. - QCB Seed Grants
The Center offers seed grant funding to both faculty and students. Call for proposals is announced via Center Weekly Updates emails and on the Center website. View a sample proposal. - Other Job Opportunities
Periodically the Center is informed of funding / job opportunities that may be of interest to our students and postdocs. Those opportunities will be shared via Center Weekly Updates emails and also posted in this folder.
Some speakers may give a talk that includes work they are willing to share with QCB members but not the general public, which is why access to these videos is protected.

- QCB Lunch & Learns: Professional development sessions targeted to QCB RA’s but beneficial to anyone.
